In CruiseCritic.com, Kyle Valenta, the Senior SEO Editor (What does an SEO Editor actually do?) publishes an article on Cruising in Recovery. There are a lot of good ideas here which, as a sober cruiser, I can appreciate. These include:

·      Select a cruise and excursions that are not centered around alcoholic beverages (like wine tasting) and food (like rum cake). You can use CruiseCritic and other sites with user forums to gather information.

·      Plan and schedule your time to avoid boredom, which might lead to relapse. Between the many scheduled activities and the fitness center, there is lots to enjoy. It is especially helpful to have a plan for happy hour or other times of high alcohol consumption.

·      Consider an Expedition Cruise to a destination like the Galapagos or Greenland. These vacations will keep you too busy to think about picking up.

·      Lean on your support network. Internet on board should be adequate for attending an online recovery group. Also, many ships have Friends of Bill W. meetups.

·      Find a ship with engaging entertainment and programming.

·      Book a wellness cruise or a sober charter cruise. Check out Sober Vacations International and Sober Celebrations.

·      Use on board credit for pampering instead of a drinks.
