The Bliss
In late March 2024, I went on a seven day cruise to the Mexican Riviera aboard the Norwegian Bliss, which can house over 4000 passengers. We left from Los Angeles and stopped in Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlán, and Cabo San Lucas. The programming was entertaining (especially the Jersey Boys show and the Argentinian Beatles cover band), the food was excellent, and, needless to say, I had a very good time.

Cruising Solo on NCL
I had heard that Norwegian Cruise Line was especially friendly to solo travelers, and I wanted to experience their program for myself. I was pleasantly surprised by the effort NCL made to make people traveling alone comfortable and the resulting congeniality.
There were several classes of “solo” cabins available, all of which were priced at less than the standard two-person fare. I was able to get a “solo balcony,” which included a queen bed and a couch.
There was a special lounge, accessible to all solo travelers via their room key, that provided coffee, juice, and pastries 24 hours a day. There was a nightly meetup at 5 PM in the lounge, which drew around 20 passengers. A group of us would go from the meetup to the main dining room for dinner, while others would break off to eat in one of the specialty restaurants.
All in all, I highly recommend the Bliss and other NCL ships for solo travelers, families, and groups. Contact Jeff Dielle at jeffdielle@gmail.com or +1 415-845-1336 to learn more or to book your cruise.
